Born in Newark, Notts, UK
Drawing and painting has always been Kevin Petrie’s passion. This took him to art school at the age of 18 and he went on to study Illustration at the University of Westminster. While there he discovered that it was possible to apply his drawings to ceramics with a printmaking method and this led him to undertake a Masters in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art in London. Here - Kevin also saw the potential of glass as a creative medium and started to make glass pieces. After his masters, Kevin undertook a PhD (rare at the time in art) at the University of the West of England, Bristol, where he helped to develop a method of printing on ceramics. As part of this Kevin made ceramics with his drawings applied to them to develop and demonstrate the new method. Kevin went on to be an academic at the University of Sunderland where he is Professor and Head of the School of Art & Design. Kevin is known for his books on glass and ceramics as well as his artworks in these materials. But along side this, his passion for drawing and painting has endured.
